Documenting, not directing

When I started out the 365, I thought this might be more challenging than I had anticipated, since my kids don't really like posing for photos. I'm inundated with "how many more photos?" "Can I have a gummy now?" "Are you done yet?", the list goes on. But in taking a course with another local photographer, she made me think outside the box. What if, instead of directing my kids into poses, I became part of the mix, and documented our time together.

It was life changing. I became part of the memory, instead creating a "made up" image of what I had envisioned. Are the photos picture perfect? Far from it. But its us, its our family as we are. Crazy, disorganized, but happy, curious and eager to learn. Participating in new things. Going to different places. Taking it all in - the good, the bad, and everything in between.

When I look back at all the photos I've taken this week, my only regret is not starting this sooner.

Getting in the mix, sledding with the kids

Blowing on snow with my son, instead of posing him
